Immigrants looking to change their OVERSEAS Licence can easily be converted to a NSW Licence.
You are first required to obtain a learner licence, ( Links to RTA Knowledge test )
Once you have a learners licence, you will need to know all the road rules and road principles to drive in NSW and then Sit for the RTA driver test assessment.
For immigrants you do not need a waiting period after you obtain a learners licence you can sit for the RTA driver test the next day.
Driving on an overseas licence NSW
Having a driver licence from another country (overseas licence), you can drive in NSW on your overseas licence only with the following reasons....
Staying as a temporary overseas visitor in NSW
The overseas licence you hold remains valid
Not been disqualified from driving in NSW or another state
Not had your licence suspended or cancelled or the visiting driver privileges taken away.
You will not need to obtain a NSW licence if you stay within these conditions and continue to prove you are staying as a vistor being a genuine visitor status to NSW Police when asked on request.
*New Zealand licence holders, must obtain a NSW driver licence within 3 months of living in NSW otherwise do not drive.
Just remember that driving on an Overses Licence in NSW you will need to comply with all the road rules in NSW, Safe2go Driving Lessons recomend you take up a 2hr driving lesson which will give you all the road rules you would need to comply too and also where most overseas licence holders come from left hand drive country (LHD) Vehicles you will need to also learn how to drivr a Right hand drive vehicle in NSW.
