DRIVING INTRUCTORSIf you teach anyone how to drive a motor vehicle for money, reward or other remuneration, you must hold a driving instructor's licence. Obtaining a licence is a rigorous process. Applicants must complete certificate IV in driving instruction and pass a driving test, theory test and health and police checks. Driving instructors instruct individuals and groups in the theory and application of driving motor vehicles. Tasks carried out by those brave enough to be employed in this industry include: instructing students under actual driving conditions; explaining and demonstrating the operation of brakes, clutch, gear selection, automatic transmission, signals and lights; and teaching road traffic regulations and road safety. Instructors advise students when they are ready to undergo driving examination. Employment in this field rose strongly in the past five years €” there are about 5600 instructors employed nationally.
